2025 Pet Travel Requirements to the EU from Africa

PUBLISHED FEB 2025 • 5 MIN READ

Updated guidance on mandatory waiting periods following rabies antibody titre tests for pets entering the EU from unlisted African hubs.

Why the Waiting Period Exists

Countries not on the EU's rabies-free listed list, including Kenya, require an FAVN (Fluorescent Antibody Virus Neutralisation) titre test proving adequate rabies antibodies, followed by a mandatory three-month wait before travel.

What You'll Need

A microchip implanted before vaccination, an up-to-date rabies vaccination, a blood sample sent to an EU-approved laboratory, and an EU health certificate completed within 10 days of departure.

Typical Timeline

Budget at least 4 months in total: vaccination and titre draw, roughly 4-6 weeks for lab results, then the 3-month wait, followed by final vet checks and paperwork shortly before the flight.

How We Help

Our documentation team tracks every deadline for you, books the FAVN test with an approved lab, and prepares your EU health certificate so nothing is missed.
